今天整理英语中情态助动词can/could/may/might/will/would的用法。
1. can/could
（1）表示能力(Ability）：can表现在或将来; could表过去。
（能用中文打字吗）＝ can you typed it in chinese?（你来过中国吗）＝ have you been to china?（你几岁不说吗）＝ how old are you?（我说说中国话好不）＝ can i speak in chinese?
● I can't do it now，but I can do it later.我现在不能做，但是稍后可以做。
● She can swim， but she couldn't last year. 她会游泳，但是去年还不会。
● He was so drunk that he couldn't find the way home. 他喝得烂醉，都找不到回家的路了。

注意：can和be able to的异同
①表示“能力”时，两者可互换。
②can只有原形can（即现在时，可表现在或将来）和过去式could（即过去时，表过去)；
be able to可有各种时态：用在过去时中，could do表示过去的一般能力，而was/were able to表示做某件具体事情的“能力”，相当于managed to或succeeded in。
● Can you type? =Are you able to type? 你会打字吗？
英[]ˈtaɪpɪŋ美[]ˈtaɪpɪŋ词典释义 typingn.打字，键入；打印本，打印文件 typen.类型；铅字；（印刷或打印的）文字；于…类型的 typedv.打字( type的过去式和过去。
● The fire spread through the hotel very quickly，but everyone was able to get out. （不用could）火势蔓延速度非常快，但是每个人都得以逃出酒店。

（2）表示允许、请求和帮助（Permission，Request，and Offer）：could的语气更委婉、正式；但回答时通常用can，不用could。
● Can/Could I use your dictionary? 我可以用你的字典吗？—Yes，you can.可以。

（3）表示可能性（Possibility）：can/could常用于否定句、疑问句或惊叹句中。
● He can&39;ve moved it to another place. 他不可能知道我的裙子在哪，你可以打字跟我聊天吗英文，因为我已经拿到另一个地方了。，
● He couldn't have been hurt. 他不可能已经受伤了
● Where can he have gone? 他可能去哪里了呢？
● What can he be doing all this time? 他一直会是在干什么呢？
● &34; &39;t have been open. I had locked it myself and the key was in my pocket.&34;“不可能是开的。我亲自锁上的，钥匙还在我的口袋里。”句子所用的是过去时，因此本句是对过去事情的否定推测，所以用can't have been。
（4）表示建议（Suggestion），通常建议的是问题的解决方式。
● If they need more space，they could buy a bigger house. 如果他们需要更大的空间，可以买一栋更大的房子。
（5）有关can的惯用语

● f. can&39;t be too careful when crossing the street. 过马路时，再小心也不为过。
2. may/might
（1）表示允许（Permission）：
● —May I ask you where you were born? 我可以问你的出生地在哪吗？-Yes you may.//No，you mustn't/may not. 可以。//不可以
（2）表示可能（Possibility）：常用于肯定句，不用于疑问句（疑问句和否定句中常用can），各种时间均可用，might的语气比may委婉。
打字的英语说法1： typing 英 [ˈtaɪpɪŋ] 美 [ˈtaɪpɪŋ]打字的英语说法2： typewrite 英 [ˈtaiprait] 美 [ˈtaɪpˌraɪt]。
● It may/might be true. 可能是真的。（表现在）
● Linda may/might have missed the train. 琳达可能已经错过火车了。（表过去）
● Mr.White is in poor health. He can be ill at anytime. 怀特先生健康不好，他任何时候都可能生病。（指逻辑上的“可能性”）
（3）may可用来表示祝愿。
● May you succeed! 祝你成功！
（4）有关may的惯用语

①may well+原形动词，“大可/足可以”
②may as well+原形动词，“不妨”（语气缓和）；比较had better+原形动词，“最好”（语气较强）
● You may as well stay home. 你不妨留在家中。
● You had better stay home. 你最好留在家中。
③may as well+原形动词+as+原形动词，“与其······倒不如....”=had better+原形动词+than+原形动词
● You may as well stay home as go out with them. 你与其和他们出去，倒不如留在家里。
注意:may as well...as...“与其……倒不如……”，表较大的可能性；might as well...as...“与其……倒不如……”则表较小的可能性。
● You might as well die as make friends with Mary. 你与其和玛丽交朋友，倒不如死了算了（但我相信你不太可能去死。）
3. will/would
（1）用于第二人称疑问句中，表示请求、建议。would或won't的语气较will更委婉，不表时态。
● Won&39;t you...更能显示出邀请的诚意）
（2）表示意愿(Willingness）、意图（Intention）、决心（Determination）、承诺（Promise）等，可用于各种人称。
● I'll be glad if you will (=are willing to) come. 如果你愿意来，我将会很高兴。（第二处will非将来时，而是表意愿）
● We will never do it again. (=are determined not to)我们永远不会再做此事了。
● I will do my best. (= promise to)我一定尽力而为。
（3）will表示没有固定时间的习惯性动作或某种倾向，过去时用would，相当于used to。
● Boys will be boys. 男生就是男生。
● Tom will talk for hours if you give him the chance. 汤姆有机会的话，就会讲上几个小时。
● She would (=used to) listen to music when she was in low spirits. 她情绪低落的时候就听音乐。
