前几天有同学问吉米老师“太阳从东方升起”用英语怎么说，是不是 the sun rises from the east？
这两个有什么区别呢？吉米老师和大家讲讲吧！
从东方升起≠from the east
The sun rises in the east.
太阳从东方升起。
另外rise主要指是自然物的升高比如：太阳的升起，涨水，月亮的升起，价格的上涨等等。这都是英语里很常用的表达，海明威的一本书就能说明《The Sun Also Rises》- 《太阳照常升起》~补充：不是说不好，只是come up和go up。
虽然中文里说“从东方升起”，但英语却要说 in the east。这是为什么呢？吉米老师问了外国小伙伴才知道，他们认为太阳是“在”东方升起的，而不是“从”东方升起的。
例句：
Everyone knows that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
每个人都知道太阳从东方升起，在西方落下。

那 on the east of 又是哪种情况呢？用 on 的时候，一般是两个地方接壤的时候。比方说江西省在湖南省的东边，和湖南省相邻，这个时候就要用 on the east of...
最后还有一个 to the east of，这种情况是既不在里面，又不相邻，就相当于福建和湖南，福建在湖南东边，但它在湖南的外面，也不和湖南相邻，这时就用 to the east of...

吉米老师发现很多人都以为 the East 一定是“东方”，其实它在不同的文化里是不同的意思。
此外很多小伙伴经常看美剧，就学到 the Midwest 这个表达，表示“中西部”，但这个单词只表示美国中西部，那中国中西部怎么说呢？应该是 the central and western China。
例句：
1. China is a big country in the East.
中国是一个东方大国。
杰克出生于美国东部地区，20 岁时搬到了中西部。
太阳升起和落下的英文翻译是The sun rises and sets。双语例句1. Because the sun rises and sets gradually, I used gradually changing light during twilight.因为太阳是逐渐升起和没落的, 于是在晨昏时分我使用了逐渐变化。

东方[美式英语]
那在美国 “东方” 不说 the East 说什么呢？一般会说 the Orient。orient 是动词，表示“确定方向”，而 the Orient 是名词，特指“东方、东亚”。
