on line/on the line
on line主要有两个意思。
line有队伍的意思
on line = wait in a line of people
意思就是排在队伍里
另外，on line有在线、上线的意思
就等于online
大家平时登陆QQ或游戏的上线
就是用online表示

相当于opinion/attitude
official line就是官方立场、官方说法的意思
一般指的是国家层面的
而take a tough/firm/hard line on sth
意思就是对...采取严厉态度

日本的官方说法是，不允许非熟练外国劳动力移民。
The school takes a very tough line on drugs.
学校对毒品采取了严厉态度。
out of line
out of line字面看是超过某条线
可以简单地理解成越界、不在一条直线上。
这里的越界指人或某物越过某条线
也可以引申为出格、过分、不合适的意思
可以用get/step out of line表示

我告诉过你不要越界，现在回到你的队伍里。
他跟妈妈顶嘴时有些过分了。
